WORKING TOWARD EQUALITY IN HEALTHCARE.

"My goal is to make healthcare more equitable through accessible patient care and by influencing change at a systemic level through consulting to both providers and practices throughout Florida."

Quick Introductions

MY CORE BELIEFS

Empathy

Empathy is invaluable. I believe empathy is the foundation that enables us to understand others and deepen our relationships. It is one of the most fundamental aspects of productive communication and helps to establish appreciation for individuals, their perspectives, their experiences and their feelings.

Data

Data-driven decisions help deliver better healthcare and improve individual performance while also improving patient outcomes, reducing costs, and reducing stress on our already over-burdened healthcare system. At the individual level and the system level, data is the guiding light for decision making.

Patient Focus

This is the application of data. Patient-focused healthcare prioritizes the needs of the patient, treating them as individuals rather than simplifying them to their current circumstances. It involves listening to concerns and involving the patient in decisions based on open communication. It recognizes that healthcare must address emotional, social, and psychological needs.

"My Purpose Is Based In Bringing People Together."

ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Dr. Alexander Ralys, and I am a primary care trained Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Healthcare Consultant, and Director of Healthcare Equality and clinic manager at a prominent multispecialty group in Jacksonville, Fl. As of early 2024, I have also returned to practicing medicine in the primary care setting allowing me to impact my community in a more direct way. I have lived in Florida since 1996 and have learned to love everything it has to offer. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado in Studio Art, a master’s degree at USF in Tampa, Fl, and completed medical school in 2017 at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Fl. Since medical school, I have trained and worked as a primary care physician as well as worked in healthcare management and business development, consulting, and healthcare compliance. I am committed to improving the healthcare experience for everyone involved.

I have spent my entire life developing the tools to care for people. Helping people is truly the thing I am most passionate about. Prior to becoming a physician, I spent time on many international mission trips and have always had a strong interest in local community service projects and global missions. While I no longer go on mission trips, I understand the value these service projects have had in shaping my desire to help those in need. As a doctor, my community involvement, internships, and training has became focused on finding ways of serving my community through medicine. Ultimately, healthcare was where I found my stride in life. After completing medical school, I chose a career in family medicine because it allowed me to directly connect and help individuals around me on a personal level. Regardless of where I have been in life, helping people has always been a common theme.

As an early adult, I began to wrestle with accepting my own self-identity and sexuality. For me, that process was difficult at best. Years of denial and a failure to adequately address my own social situation ultimately made life much more difficult than it needed to be. In 2018 I was wrongfully accused of what I believe is a truly tragic crime because of my own personal and lifestyle differences. Being accused of such serious wrongdoing has led to years of investment in myself, soul searching, and ultimately a reshaping of my values. It has also made clear to me that personal and systemic prejudices and disparities still exist in this world and unfortunately have very real-world consequences.

While some of my own past experiences have been difficult, I believe strongly it is possible to benefit from the outcome of a situation without enjoying the journey. My past experiences and issues with self-doubt have shaped my commitment to decreasing barriers for the LGBTQ+ community and have given me a vision for how truly great life can be. Because of my past, I am able to live an authentic version of my own life I never previously thought possible, and I am passionate about affording others who are struggling the same opportunity. My past has given me the tools to address LGBTQ+ issues through problem awareness, enhancing healthcare operations, and addressing health literacy. I believe through this I can encourage a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable community.

Equity

BRIEF STATEMENT ON EQUALITY

Equality at its most basic level is about equal opportunity and bringing people together. It is about creating a sense of community and promoting positive interpersonal relationships. It involves finding common ground and encouraging individuals to see beyond their differences. Whether it’s through shared experiences, mutual interests or simply respect for each other, coming together fosters a sense of belonging and unity. In today’s divisive climate, finding ways to bring people together has never been more crucial. Striving toward equality and common ground should be a goal of all of us, as we work towards creating a more inclusive and compassionate healthcare environment.
